A full bathroom renovation in Cheltenham. This bathroom needed a full rethink, going back to brick and changing the layout completely.

The existing bathroom felt very much like a 'galley' with the bath and an airing cupboard along one side then the toilet and hand basin along the other. We were lucky enough as we were rebuilding a new kitchen extension downstairs to be able to rebuild above and gain about half a metre in width but it made all the difference, Enabling us to replan and fit a freestanding bath, a large walk in shower and two basins.

Much consideration is needed when designing a new bathroom. It is always good to use any existing plumbing in the positions they are already in. If you can, this will help to save on budget. While of course bathrooms need to be practical they are now luxurious areas where people actually spend 'time' so they need to be a considered design and a relaxing space as well..

The design of bathrooms need to stand the test of time and can 'date' too quickly. As they are one of the most expensive areas of your property I would always advise on a white suite so that you can add colour if wanted with paint, artwork and towels etc.

This property was ultimately going to be a rental house so a neutral light grey was specified to give an inoffensive clean and calm feel to the room. The boiler was moved into a smaller cupboard as you entered the area and the door was rehung the other way round so that there was more of a feeling of space as well as meaning the shower could now be tucked party behind the opened door on opening.

Another good storage tip is to consider the space needed to accommodate the plumbing for a shower as you can see this quite often creates room to create a really useful shelf area within the enclosure.

If you have the room, twin basins are very desirable and feel very luxe. Victorian taps and fittings were sourced even though the overall design looks fairly modern to stay true to the character of the house.

Another small detail tip which really works is to consider how to lay your tiles. I used a fairly large rectangular tile in the area but laid them offset and in a length formation from the doorway which when entering ultimatelymakes the room feel longer than it is.
