A small original townhouse down a lane in the backstreets of Skiathos had two bedrooms on the top floor much in need of renovation.
To modernise we decided to convert to a large bedroom and en suite with walk in shower. We sanded and repainted the original floor and mixed new pieces of furniture with antique vintage pieces to honour the age of the building.
We created a dividing wall to create a separate bathroom and using elements already in the room such as a previously bricked in window we found pieces that look as if they were made for these spaces.
We saved money by building a stand for the sink in the bathroom and gave warmth by creating a shelf by adding a decorative piece of wood. These details really do make a difference.
Lighting was kept simple and elegant using unusual glass lights with vintage bulbs and bedding, cushions, rugs and towels matched in light whites, blues & greys giving an overall neutral feel.
Buying second hand pieces from markets and antique shops even if not traditionally Greek can give a warmth to an area to make it feel more of a house and give a 'history' to a room that I don't feel you can create with modern buys. And of course much better to reuse than throw away!
