As the winter season arrives on the island we have decided to bite the bulllet and start on the planned 'works' to the entrance area of the villa. We plan to replace the lean to garage / carport and re landscape and pave the outside area of Villa Asimi.
We are currently about a month / 6 weeks into what we assume will be about a 3 month project in all and thought it might be good to show progress so far.
The old wonky falling down garage / carport has been demolished and the large overhanging branches of the huge pine tree above cut and cleared away to make space for the new construction basically just replacing the old with a new, safer and more aesthetic similar structure.
We are also clearing space to make a larger parking area at the front of the Villa which we are going to pave using the local Pelion stone as this seems to be the choice of many of the outside areas in Kolios..
This is involving copius amounts of digging, mess, concrete, sand, cement, bricks, dust and very early starts in the morning! While we are at it we have decided to carry on the paving down the steps to the Kalivi (The Archers Arms) in the garden and the path leading to the outside terrace so that there is a cohesion between all of the outside adjoining areas and will give a more 'finished' overall feel to the property.
This has managed to create a small now almost walled garden area between the entrance to the villa and the Kalivi which we have been mulling over since we got here what to do with. We have now decided to create a cactus and succulent gravelled garden which we are in the process of now designing but this will have to wait until another day as we will need to see exactly what space we are left with once all done to plan properly.
As all things seem to be on the island it is all a bit crazy and unorganised and no amount of planning, measuring and designing seems to help calm the process once it is up and running so you just have to sit back and enjoy the ride! I will, of course, post the 'afters' once we eventually arrive there!
